An oceanographic cruise of approximately two weeks has just begun on board NRP Auriga of Instituto Hidrográfico within the framework of HabWAVE.
The purpose of this campaign is to collect water and sediment samples, as well as to perform physical measurements, along a zonal transect off Figueira da Foz and over a fixed station located at about 30 km offshore, where an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was previously placed (at about 100 m deep) and collected data from early May to early September 2019.
NRP Auriga left Lisbon for Figueira da Foz on the 9th and replaced the ADCP on the 10th, which is to work for the entire duration of the cruise. On the 11th the whole team is to meet with the ship’s crew to plan the first outing, which is to take place on the 12th. This first day’s field work will focus on extensive sampling and measuring over the fixed station.
On land, at MARE Foz, another team is on stand-by to receive and process the samples that come in.
